One trend that is slowly becoming a classic because of its vivid look, ease-of-styling & great versatility is PLAID. It is one print that is hugely popular on the road as well as the ramp. The Fall winter’18 collections of top designers has plaid as one of the top trends of this season. Most noteworthy is the fact that a lot more unexpected ways and offbeat pairings of plaid were witnessed this season. For example plaid worn from head to toe in varying shades or mixing variety of plaid prints (think gingham with windowpane checks) or just by mixing brights with neutrals or even mixing material (think plaid wool scarves with plaid nylon tote bags). Options & styling techniques are limitless! As we gear up for the cooler weather, I think it would be safe to say that plaid serves as a great transitional print and is almost a wardrobe essential for the coming season. Nothing screams fall or winter as much as a tartan dress or a glen plaid jacket. Today’s post is all about styling this beautiful & versatile print in multiple ways. I have been joined today by Fonda of Savvy Southern Chic who has given her own interpretation of plaid through her styling ideas. I extend a warm welcome to Fonda!

I have come up today with two distinct looks with a royal blue plaid shirt top. This top from Intro, was love at first sight and I couldn’t wait to give it my own fall twist. Following my personal minimalist style, my first look has been inspired for a date night or a post office duty “start of leisure time” look. Since the color of my plaid shirt is bold & bright, I kept the rest of the elements pretty low key but classic. A navy skinny crop trouser, chic black strappy sandals and a silver antique necklace for that little bling–that pretty much summed up this look. The bold deep espresso lip color perfectly complemented the rest of my outfit. It is relatively a more dressier, glamorous take on a simple, daily, print such as plaid. Where I had a whole lot of ideas for styling this shirt, I intentionally gravitated towards doing a slightly more elevated & polished look.

For the second look, I kept it simple with just my plaid shirt & skinny jeans! This one is a casual, street-look inspired style that is quite understated. It was a breezy styling with a pair of denims with my shirt half tucked in, some chunky boots and a black hat that added to the casual style quotient of the look. The pair of transparent glasses added a bit of dimension to this otherwise casual but trendy plaid look. So for all days when you are feeling extremely lethargic, all you need to do is grab your plaid shirt , tuck it into your denim and slip into your boots/ sneakers! And you would be able to walk away confidently like a fashionista….

Call it a wardrobe staple, a closet essential or simply a passing fashion phase, there is no denying that today plaid is invading the fashion pattern & print market in a big way. You can style plaid with your favorite modern trends such as leather pants, asymmetric dresses & ankle boots or with the popular traditional classics like the pencil skirts, high-waisted trousers or denims with equal ease & panache! Plus, they’re flattering for any woman’s personality. With a whole bunch of plaids to choose from covering bright, bold patterns in a wide array of colors to more subtle prints in a variety of price points, there is surely a plaid-pick for you. This fall try to give your own fashion punch to plaid and let me know how you fared in the comments below!
